For many years, we have provided LLUH employees with exceptional medical and dental benefits through our self-insured plans. We have managed our plan costs and avoided cost shifting to employees. Year after year, our plans have allowed us to provide excellent coverage for employees and families with minimal out-of-pocket costs and affordable payroll deductions.
Each year, we compare our employee and dependent contributions and health plan coverage to the health insurance market in Southern California. With our review of market data this year, we confirmed that our employee contributions for medical coverage are less than 50% of the average cost for other large employers. Our employee co-payments are also less than 50% of the market norm.
For over 100 years, Loma Linda University has promoted a healthy lifestyle and disease prevention. Wellness has been a core part of our clinical services, research and teaching activities throughout our history. Following this legacy, over a decade ago, we implemented our Living Whole wellness program to provide wellness programs and services specifically designed to support the well-being of our employees, students and their families. Since that time, we have developed a comprehensive range of wellness and disease management services and continued to promote a wellness culture across the LLUH organizations.
In 2014, we implemented the new Wholeness Health Plan strategy to complement the Living Whole program. The Wholeness Plan includes biometric screening, a health risk assessment (HRA), wellness and prevention information and additional resources to empower each health plan member to be actively involved in managing his or her health. We believe that families engaged in wellness and prevention improves health and helps us to maintain comprehensive and affordable benefits.
