Adam Smith and the self subject of March 9 Sabbath School

David Larson, professor of religion at Loma Linda University, will proceed with the second part of "Capitalism and Socialism: Which is More Christian" at the Roy Branson and Friends Sabbath School Class Sabbath, March 9.

Dr. Larson will explore how Adam Smith, the 18th century Scottish thinker often called the father of capitalism, would not recognize many forms of capitalism today. Smith did emphasize the importance of “self-interest”; however, what Smith meant by the “self” was different from what many now mean.

Dr. Larson will argue that Adam Smith’s understanding of the “self” is closer to what we find in Scripture than most realize, and that a return to Adam Smith’s form of capitalism would be a helpful step in moral direction.

The Roy Branson and Friends Sabbath School class meets Sabbaths from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Centennial Complex room 3111.
