Ethics film series continues with 'The English Surgeon'

The Center for Christian Bioethics will present two screenings of "The English Surgeon," 2010 Emmy Award winner for Outstanding Science and Technology Programming, Wednesday, Jan. 30, and Thursday, Jan. 31.

"The English Surgeon" touches on a number of ethical issues as London's foremost brain surgeon, Henry Marsh, travels to Ukraine year after year to improve the medieval brain surgery techniques he witnesses there. He faces the challenges of misdiagnosed patients, scarce resources and equipment, as well as the agony over whether to treat desperate patients he doubts he can save.

Both screenings will be in Centennial Complex room 3113 at 6:00 p.m., with a special appearance by the film's director and producer, Geoffrey Smith, at the Wednesday screening.

Admission is free.
