CHDMM, Behavioral Health sponsor Black Men's Health Fair Aug. 18

The Loma Linda University School of Medicine Center for Health Disparities and Molecular Medicine (CHDMM) and the School of Behavioral Health will sponsor a Black Men's Health Fair Sunday, Aug. 18, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Kansas Avenue Seventh-day Adventist Church in Riverside.

The health fair will offer adult men--aged 21 years or older--a variety of services such as free cholesterol, diabetes, blood pressure, weight and respiratory health screenings, as well as education about prostate cancer and how lifestyle and stress affect health.

In addition, participants will have an opportunity to assist LLU medical researchers in learning more about men’s health and how men make decisions about health risks and prevention. A modest compensation will be offered to men who complete a blood draw and/or a survey to help LLU researchers learn more about men’s health, stress and prostate cancer.

Refreshments will be provided.

This fair has been organized by a university-wide team led by Dr. Susanne Montgomery, School of Behavioral Health, and Dr. Carlos A. Casiano, CHDMM and the School of Medicine, as part of Project C.H.A.N.G.E. (Changing Health for Adult Men with New and Great Experiences). The CHDMM is a National Institutes of Health-designated Center of Excellence in Minority Health and Health Disparities.
