Reminder: Call for Concept Papers for the W.M. Keck Foundation 

Loma Linda University Health is accepting institutional submissions of concept papers to the W.M. Keck Foundation Research Program. The Keck Foundation funds high-impact research in basic physical, life, and biomedical sciences, including instrumentation development and engineering approaches in service of answering basic scientific questions.

We invite investigators conducting basic science research to submit a one-page concept paper (12 point font with 1 inch margins) that must include:

  1. Organization Name
  2. Project Title
  3. Full name of Principal Investigator
  4. An overview of the proposed project emphasizing any unique aspects and pilot studies
  5. Methodologies
  6. Key Personnel
  7. Knowledge Gap: what is the basic scientific question to be answered?
  8. Impact: if successful, what will be enabled and who will benefit?
  9. Innovation: how is the proposed work distintive, innovative, field-expanding, or paradigm shifting?
  10. Fit: Please see our funding guidelines for details on what we do and do not fund.
  11. Budget: broken down, if possible, by major areas, e.g. personnel, equipment, consumable supplies, etc. The budget must be reviewed by LLU Pre Award before submission. Please contact Fanny Miranda at fmiranda@llu.edu for a budget consultation. 
  12. If a reference is necessary, use a footnote and abbreviate it as (Author, Science, 323, 45, ‘11). DO NOT USE (Jones et al., 2011). Please avoid any illustrations.

Transthyretin Cardiac Amyloidosis Fellowship -  To support institutions with fellowship programs for Cardiologists or Heart Failure Advanced Practice Providers that have a strong focus on clinical practice, research, and education to further the understanding of ATTR cardiac amyloidosis.

 

Advances in Migraine Management- Identify and address the educational needs of healthcare professionals to improve the care, management, and outcomes of adult patients with migraine.

 

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

Drug-Free Communities Support Program-Opportunity Number: CDC-RFA-CE-26-0061-Strengthening community collaborations to reduce and prevent youth substance abuse.

 

American Cancer Society

Mission Boost Grants (MBG) to support research projects that specifically focus on translation to human testing. Stage 1 requires the investigator to develop outcome-specific, unequivocal milestones. Stage 2-supportes testing in cancer patients.

 

Research Scholar Grants (RSG) Investigators within the first 8 years of an independent research career or full-time faculty maty apply. Provides support for independent, self-directed researchers.

 

Postdoctoral Fellowships- Supports new investigators in research training programs to position them for independent careers in cancer research. Applicants who have completed 3 or fewer years of post-doc research may apply.

 

Clinician Scientist Development Grant (CSDG)- Full time faculty who have clinical responsibilities who do not lead an independent research program can apply.

 

Leukemia Exploration and Prevention Grant Program- Independent investigators at any career stage may apply. To enable the discovery of cancer interception or prevention therapies for RUNX1-FDP Hematologic malignancies.

Innovative Research in Cancer Nanotechnology (IRCN; R01 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) PAR-25-106- To encourage applicants to promote transformative discoveries in cancer biology and/or oncology through the use of nanotechnology. Should address overcoming major barriers in cancer biology and focus on mechanistic studies.

 

Early Immune System Development and Ontogeny (R01 Clinical Trial Optional) PAR-25-362-To further elucidate the mechanisms of early immune development in utero, during the early post-natal period and during early childhood in neonate, infant, and children adolescents with or without in-utero exposure to HIV or Anti-Retroviral Therapeutics.

 

NIH Collaborative International Research Project (Parent PF5 Clinical Trial Optional) PA-26-002- To support international research collaborations. This opportunity specifically implements an award structure of prime domestic awards with independent foreign awards that are linked to the prime.

 

Development of Animal Models and Related Biological Material for Research (R21 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) PAR-25-273- To develop, improve, characterize, and preserve animal models as well as animal model related biological materials.

 

Research Projects to Enhance Applicability of Mammalian Models for Translational Research (R01 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) PAR-24-306. To expand, improve, or transform the utility of mammalian cancer and tumor models for translational research.

 

T32’s

Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Institutional Research Training Grant (Parent T32) PA-25-168- To develop and/or enhance predoctoral and postdoctoral research training. To help ensure that a highly trained workforce is available to meet the needs of the Nation’s biomedical, behavioral, and clinical research agenda.

 

Medical Scientist Training Program T32 PAR-24-128- To develop a Pool of well-trained clinician-scientist leaders available to address the nation’s biomedical research needs.

 

National Institute of General Medical Sciences Predoctoral Basic Biomedical Sciences Research Training Program (T32) PAR-23-228- To develop a pool of well-trained scientists available to address the nation’s biomedical research agenda. To allow appointed trainees to lead an independent clinical trial but does allow them to obtain research experience in a clinical trial led by a mentor pr co-mentor.

 

Institutional Training Programs to Adbance Translational Research on Alzheimer’s Disease and AD-Related Dementias (T32 Clinical Trial Not allowed) PAR-25-247- To encourage biomedical, social, and behavioral research and research training directed toward greater understanding of the aging process and the diseases, special problems, and needs of people as they age.

Kirschstein National Research Service (NRSA) Predoctoral Research Training Grant for the Clinical & Translational Science Awards Program (T32 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) PAR-25-194- To support predoctoral research training programs.
