PCORI Board approves $44.4million for 21 New Patient-Centered Research Projects

The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is an independent nonprofit, nongovernmental organization that seeks to improve the quality and relevance of evidence available to help patients, caregivers, clinicians, employers, insurers, and policy makers make informed health decisions. PCORI just approved $44.4 million in funding for 21 new patient centered comparative clinical effectiveness research studies. These funds will support projects on condition and problems that impose high burdens on patients, caregivers, and the health system including misuse of antibiotics, postpartum depression, post-traumatic stress disorder among veterans, and joint replacement among others. The funding will also focus on cancer, developing a more patient-centered approach to assessing the quality of care for people with cancer and assessing the effectiveness of different treatment strategies for ductal carcinoma in situ among older women.
