Employee Spotlight

Meet Julian Toma. Here is his story in his own words.

My name is Julian Toma and my “home” is here at East Campus in the Respiratory Care Department. Nonetheless, I also work at the Surgical Hospital and rotate at the Medical Center and Children’s Hospital on occasion.

I’ve been with Loma Linda, in one capacity or another, for a very long time. I started out over at Drayson Center, then transitioned over to the Clinical Lab as a Phlebotomist, and then made my way into Respiratory Care here at East Campus. I had applied to other places but Loma Linda was one place that I was hoping to continue to work at. I liked the environment, the people, and the culture that Loma Linda propagated.  Once I was fortunate enough to be presented with the opportunity to continue my growth with them, I had to take advantage of it. And it’s been a great journey so far. I’ve had the opportunity to work with and learn from a lot of great people.  I’m looking forward to continuing my journey with Loma Linda and absorb as much as I can along the way.

Being approached for this interview....really caught me by surprise. I’m not used to answering questions about myself so it was really interesting to go through each “Campus Connector Interview Question”. It’s been a pleasant experience however.

When asked what he liked most about his job, Julian said, "The variety in what we are exposed to on a daily basis. I feel like every day I work here I learn something new and are exposed to something different. It’s always nice to get a new challenge and to contribute in some way to the betterment of our patients."

As for his best pal at work, he said, "I can’t pick just one co-worker. I believe that we have a very good department overall and we all tend to get along very well. If I’m forced to choose just one person however, I’d have to say that Sylvia Gutierrez is the best! She’s our secretary, and if you have the time and opportunity to come by the Respiratory Department, please stop by and say “Hi” to her!"

Thanks, Julian, for sharing your story with us!
