Lucky Ducklings

East Campus ducklings go for a swim.

Earlier this spring a duck was discovered outside of East Campus laying four eggs under a tree. A gardener trying to be helpful, touched the eggs, and the mother abandoned them. When I was younger, I had hatched chickens and ducks, and still had my incubator at home. I volunteered to take the eggs and try to hatch them. After many long weeks of waiting (roughly 45 days), all of the eggs finally hatched. I raised them in a rubbermaid container in my spare bedroom until they were large enough to be outside on their own. I would later find out that there were three females and one male based on their coloring. I then found them a good home with a friends family on their large property with plenty of other poultry to play with. Now they swim in a pond all day and relax. I named them Dewey Deborah, Lewey Lyndon, Daffy Karla and Hewey Jan.
