Sabbath school begins news series on wealth, Christianity

The Roy Branson and Friends Sabbath School Class begins "Through the Eye of a Needle," a five-week series that begins Sabbath, Jan. 19.

After Roman Emperor Constantine converted to Christianity in 312, Christians debated what church members should do with their increasing wealth. Some quickly renounced their fortunes and gave everything they had to the poor. Others gave small amounts regularly to their congregations. Still others donated large sums to build Christian institutions. The experience of these early Christians is instructive to Seventh-day Adventist Christians living today in one of the wealthiest and most powerful nations on Earth.

Roy Branson, director of the Center for Christian Bioethics, will introduce the topic with a presentation Sabbath, Jan. 19, titled "Christians Wrestle with Their Wealth, A.D. 350-550." Subsequent speakers will include John Jones and Katherine Parsons of La Sierra University and David Larson of Loma Linda University.

The Roy Branson and Friends Sabbath School Class meets from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Centennial Complex room 3111.
