DMA-MIG vespers features Chadian love story

Dr. James and Sarah Appel will present their story for the Deferred Mission Appointee (DMA) and Mission Interest Group (MIG) vespers Dec. 7, at 5 p.m.

The Appel's great love for the Lord and for serving others paved the way for their first meeting in a remote hospital in Chad. He was the only doctor; she was a volunteer nurse from Denmark. What followed after is an amazing love story--for the people in sub-Saharan Africa, for each other, and for the family they raised there.

After completing his residency, Dr. Appel moved to the Republic of Chad where he served as medical director at the Bere Adventist Hospital for 7 years. He and Sarah were married in December 2004.

In 2011, the family took an eight-month sabbatical in Ventura County where their twins, Adam and Miriam, were born. The newly enlarged family returned to Chad in October 2011 to start a new project in Chad's second largest city, Moundou. Tragically, due to malaria, Adam died at 6 months. The Appels are expecting Adam's little brother in January 2013.

Dr. Appel is currently the medical director of the Moundou Adventist Surgery Center which opened in June 2012.

The vespers service, co-sponsored by the DMA program and the MIG, will be held in Loma Linda University Church room 105. Light refreshments will be served.
