Volunteers sought for major health fair in L.A.

Loma Linda University Health is recruiting volunteers for the largest Seventh-day Adventist-sponsored free clinic in U.S. history. Comprehensive medical and dental care will be provided during the clinic, April 27 to 29. The fair will be held in the Los Angeles Convention Center with White Memorial Medical Center serving as the location for surgeries.

Ten thousand people are expected to receive care during the fair’s two-and-a-half days. With approximately 45,000 homeless people living in Los Angeles County, the homeless will be a primary focus of the free clinic, which will provide dentistry, vision care and surgery. According to Lela Lewis, president of Your Best Pathway to Health, 3,000 volunteers are needed to staff the event.

Two informational sessions will take place at Loma Linda University Health Wednesday, Jan. 13 -- one for faculty and staff, and a second for students. Following are the times and locations:

  • Faculty and staff -- 12:00 to 1:30 p.m., Wong Kerlee International Conference Center. Light lunch will be served; RSVP by emailing icp@llu.edu
  • Students -- 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., Councilors Student Pavilion. Light refreshments will be served; RSVP by emailing icp@llu.edu

“We are in desperate need of volunteers,” Lela Lewis, president of Your Best Pathway to Health, told a reporter for the Adventist Review. “We need everyone. There is a place for everyone.”

Best Pathway to Health, a service of ASI, is a supporting ministry of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
