The Roy Branson and Friends Sabbath School class will begin a new series titled Constructing the Future: New Voices in the School of Religion Sabbath, November 15.
For the next month, newly appointed faculty will recount their recent studies in their areas of specialty: ethics, Old Testament, philosophy of religion, practical theology, and the psychology of religion.
This first Sabbath, Erik Carter, D.Min., the most recently appointed full-time member of the School of Religion faculty, will share research he is completing for his Ph.D. at the Claremont School of Theology.
His presentation, "A (Sabbath) Day in the life of Six American Rabbis," will share interviews he has conducted with contemporary rabbis concerning their understanding of the Sabbath. Carter's interviews reveal different theological currents flowing through contemporary American Judaism.
The Roy Branson and Friends Sabbath School class meets from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sabbaths in Centennial Complex room 3111.
