Handel's 'Messiah' and Isaiah 40: Sabbath school examines Isaiah's call May 10

The Roy Branson and Friends Sabbath School class continues its in-depth study of the book of Isaiah with "Isaiah: Messenger of Good Tidings."

As one of the longest books in the Old Testament and certainly one of books most quoted in the New Testament, Isaiah contains some of the most magnificent poetry ever written.

This Sabbath the class will compare and contrast the call to Isaiah in chapter 6 with the call to Isaiah in chapter 40, when Israel is in different historical and political circumstances. The class will then read and listen to how the Christian community has appropriated Isaiah 40 in Handel's Messiah.

The Roy Branson and Friends Sabbath School class meets from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Centennial Complex room 3111.
