Bioethics center presents APC bioethics events March 7

The Center for Christian Bioethics will host a half day of bioethics-related events during the annual Loma Linda University School of Medicine Alumni Postgraduate Convention (APC) Friday, March 7.

Ronald Garet, Ph.D., J.D., will present the Jack Provonsha Lecture, "My Ancient Faith," considering whether the worth of one's work in any profession or vocation depends on one's personal and public declaration of faith--or if, in declaring "my ancient faith," one breaches the boundaries between public and private realms.

Dr. Garet is the Carolyn Craig Franklin Professor of Law and Religion at the University of Southern California Gould School of Law.

Following Dr. Garet's lecture will be a roundtable discussion featuring Dr. Garet; Brian Bull, M.D., former dean of the LLU School of Medicine; Donna Carlson-Reeves, M.D., J.D., former president of the LLU School of Medicine Alumni Association; David Larson, Ph.D., professor in the LLU School of Religion; Michael Orlich, M.D., director of the LLU preventive medicine residency program; and Roy Branson, Ph.D., director of the Center for Christian Bioethics.

At the conclusion of the roundtable, Gina Mohr, M.D., will lead a bioethics symposium featuring clinical ethicists from the Loma Linda University Medical Center. Dr. Mohr is director of the LLUMC Clinical Ethics Consultation Service.

All events will be held in the Centennial Complex Damazo Amphitheater.

The Jack Provonsha Lecture will begin at 8:25 a.m.; the roundtable discussion will begin at 9:30 a.m.; and the bioethics symposium will begin at 10:30 a.m., concluding at 12:30 p.m.

Continuing medical education credit is available.
