University to begin 40 Days of Prayer

Summer Quarter is almost at an end and Fall Quarter, which heralds the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year, looms in the horizon.

As the University prepares to welcome new and returning students, it is fitting for the University community to once more join together in prayer--daily prayer--for the next 40 days.

The number 40 is significant in scripture as it defines a time of consecration and sacrifice in the lives of many of biblical patriarchs, as well as the life of Jesus himself. This period serves as an opportunity to spend time in reflection and intercession for each school and department and office, from central administration to plant services and catering--everyone who serves the University.

Everyone at this University has has each accepted the call to serve students and patients, local communities and the world as we continue the work this institution was founded to accomplish: "Further the teaching and healing ministry of Christ." There are many challenges that lay ahead and is fitting that we should prepare for the task, together in prayer.

The 40 Days of Prayer begins Sunday, Aug. 11, and concludes Thursday, Sep. 19. Campus chaplains Dr. Terry Swenson and Dilys Brooks will say a special prayer during the Fall Faculty Colloquium, which concludes symbolically this time of consecration.

Each day's prayer focus will appear on a special myLLU portlet. Visit myllu.llu.edu for details beginning Aug. 11.
