6088:35316 <![CDATA[AAMC article: NIH Funds More Long-Term Grants]]> Pre Award AAMC released an article on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, describing the benefits of NIH’s new long-term-grant programs: the R35 for established investigators and ESI/MERIT programs for less-established investigators.

The R35 offers established investigators more flexibility to explore new concepts, greater stability, and allows them to take more risks. Depending on the issuing institute, this mechanism will support an investigator’s work from 5-8 years with up to $600,000-$750,000 in direct costs per year.

NIH is encouraging submissions from less-established investigators via NCI’s Method to Extend Research in Time (MERIT) R37 mechanism (for up to seven years) and NIGMS’s Early Stage Investigator Award. Both provide up to $250,000 in direct costs per year.
