6088:21260 <![CDATA[SAVE THE DATE: ON TRACK FOR RESEARCH SUCCESS]]> Research Affairs is pleased to invite investigators, research coordinators, staff, students and others involved in research to attend a half-day seminar on October 12, 2012 focusing on tools and information to assist them in their studies. The seminar will provide nuts and bolts guidance on seeking funding, conducting human studies, working with the IRB, and understanding policies and regulations governing research activities, among others. There will be multiple table topics during the lunch hour with experienced investigators and representatives from Research Affairs to facilitate discussions. The topics were selected from suggestions provided by researchers in a recent survey and the content is designed to help both new investigators and veterans improve their success.

Registration is free and lunch is provided. This is an ideal opportunity to get answers to your tough questions and to learn about the services provided by Research Affairs. It will also put you in contact with other researchers on campus.

Since many more topics were suggested than could be accommodated in a single event, this session will be the kick-off for a series of lunchtime presentations on additional-research related subjects. We look forward to seeing you!

6088:21257 <![CDATA[NEW CONFLICT OF INTEREST RULE GO INTO EFFECT AUGUST 24, 2012!]]> Antonio Fields Changes to the conflict of interest regulations must be implemented by August 24, 2012. Under the new rules, investigators must disclose all significant financial interests (SFIs) that could reasonably appear to be related to their institutional duties (including research, teaching, administrative, clinical, etc.). In preparation, Research Affairs has developed software for submitting disclosures. The system was designed to be user friendly with the aim of reducing the impact of more demanding regulations. We welcome your feedback and suggestions for improvement.

We invite investigators to start using the new Conflict of Interest system (beta version) to submit their disclosures. Any information you enter will be available for future disclosures, thereby streamlining the process. To access this system, log on at https://mylluint.llu.edu/researchaffairs/CoI/ with your institutional user name and password. The login will take you to the ‘COI Summary’ tab. Simply click the ‘Submit Disclosure’ tab to start your submission.

Reminders:

 • For researchers and their families with no significant financial interests, disclosures need to be renewed only once a year, or until they acquire a new financial interest related to their professional duties.
 • Researchers with significant financial interests related to their work must update their disclosures with each new project (proposal, contract or study), but no less than once per year.
 • A grant application cannot be submitted to a sponsor until all personnel listed on the study have submitted their disclosures.
 • Research Affairs Financial Management cannot release funds nor can an IRB or IACUC release approvals until all personnel listed on the study have submitted their disclosures.
