Research Affairs: Researcher's Alert for January 4, 2017 http://myllu.llu.edu/syncall/communityhome/?communityId=6088 en-us Fri, 03 May 2024 12:02:02 -0700 SyncAll RSS 1.0 6088:28997 <![CDATA[2016 GRASP Awardees announced]]> Anthony Zuccarelli, PhD Research Affairs is pleased to announce the Grants for Research and School Partnerships (GRASP) awards for 2016.  Fourteen applications were received from 26 different co-principal investigators from seven LLU schools.  They were reviewed and scored by a panel of 15 or more senior researchers.  Based on the combined scores of the reviewers, three projects with investigators from five different schools were selected for awards, fulfilling the GRASP objective to encourage collaborative research between researchers in various parts of the institution.  All the applicants will shortly receive copies of the reviewer’s comments to guide them in preparing subsequent grant applications.

Please join us in congratulating Drs. Lisa Roberts, Susanne Montgomery, Kristopher Boyle, Eileen Brantley, Ellen D’Errico, and Gayathri Nagaraj.  We earnestly hope that their studies are successful, that their results will be reported in peer-reviewed publications and will contribute to applications for extramural funding.

6088:29033 <![CDATA[Making IRB easier: Flexibilities for Informed Consent - Research Affairs seminar]]> Sandra Figueroa IRB regulations provide a variety of tools for effective implementation of the informed consent process.  What are these tools, what flexibility is available for investigators so that the rights of research participants’ are respected while research moves forward in achieve its scientific objectives?  Specific guidance will be provided for applying these regulatory flexibilities appropriately.

The seminar will be held in the Research Affairs main conference room from 12-1pm. Physicians attending this session will earn CME.

6088:27816 <![CDATA[NIH Changes to Post-submission Materials and Appendix Policies]]> Cindy Dickson NIH Changes to Post-submission Materials and Appendix Policies

Beginning with the January 25, 2017 application due date, NIH will change what post-submission materials are allowable, and will eliminate most appendix materials currently allowed in applications. In November 2016, NIH will update the application guide and all funding opportunity announcements to reflect the changes for due dates on or after January 25, 2017.

6088:28886 <![CDATA[New Coordinator of the Research Consulting Group at the School of Public Health]]> Pramil Singh, DrPH The Research Consulting Group at the School of Public Health has named Dennys Estevez, MPH the new Consulting Coordinator.  Mr. Estevez holds a bachelor degree of science in mathematics from UCLA and a master’s degree in biostatistics from Loma Linda University.    As the consulting coordinator and senior analyst, Mr. Estevez works with Pramil N. Singh, DrPH to provide intake and assignment of all incoming health research consulting projects. Research consulting group provides consulting on quantitative and qualitative data analysis, reporting, and other research needs to faculty, students, residents, and the community.  Mr. Estevez and the RCG team can be reached online at http://llurcg.org/,  by e-mail at rcg@llu.edu, and by phone (909-558-4591) for appointments and consultations.
