We have some exciting new announcements related to grant submissions. Below is a preview of updates/information included in this Researcher’s Alert.

New eTransmittal and eRouting for approval of all grant submissions

In early October the Pre Award team began testing with a select of approvers our new eTransmittal and eRouting for approvals of grant submissions. Our goal is to make grant submissions more efficient for everyone by eliminating paper transmittals, hand signatures and reducing the number of emails our approvers receive. January 2018 is our target date to have all approvers trained and using the new electronic approval process.

Approvers include investigator, chair (department head), school business official, dean and institutional official.

New PHS FORMS-E for use when applying for grants involving Human subjects and/or clinical trials

Effective on and/or after January 25, 2018 the NIH has standardized the way you display human subject information for human studies and clinical trials. According to the NIH a few benefits of the new PHS FORMS-E include: “the consolidation of human subjects, inclusion enrollment and clinical trial information into one form.” Additionally, the new forms, “Collects information at the study-level, presents key information to reviewers and NIH staff, aligns with ClinicalTrials.gov, and includes an attachment for single use IRB.”

Plan early so that you give yourself enough time to get familiar with the new forms requirements, and like always Pre Award is her to assist you; x44589, rapreaward@llu.edu

Clinical Trial Specific Parent R01 and Parent R21 Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOA)

Beginning November 2017 the NIH plans to publish Parent R01 Clinical Trial Required and NIH Exploratory/Developmental Parent R21 Clinical Trial Required Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs). Some NIH Institutes and Centers will join these parent FOAs and others will jointly or alone publish specific Clinical Trials. You will not be able to apply for a Clinical Trial grant unless the FOA states it can be used for Clinical Trials.

Reminder: NIH definition of a Clinical Trial

NIH defines a clinical trial as “A research study in which one or more human subjects are prospectively assigned to one or more interventions (which may include placebo or other control) to evaluate the effects of those interventions on health-related biomedical or behavioral outcomes.”

Coming soon new NIH Parent Funding Opportunity Announcements numbers (FOA)

On October 25^th, 2017 the NIH began reissuing all their parent announcements with new Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOA) numbers. The process of reissuing FOAs to include FORMS-E packages will happen incrementally throughout October 25^th – November 25^th. All new application packages will be published at least 60 days ahead of the first due dates.
