The Fiscal Year 2013 (FY13) Defense Appropriations Act provides research funding for the peer reviewed programs managed by the Department of Defense (DOD) office of Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP)recently released announcements from the following programs. Application Requirements All applicants must either be an American Heart Association Professional Member or pay $100 per application submission. Additional application fee information.

The American Heart/Stroke Association has established partnerships with various organizations to fund critical need/high impact and focused research programs.
- AHA/ASA/American Brain Foundation Lawrence M. Brass, M.D. Stroke Research Postdoctoral Fellowship Awardsupports an investigator embarking on a career in stroke research related to vascular neurology, stroke and neurocritical care. Interested parties should submit a postdoctoral fellowship application to their local affiliate.
- American Stroke Association/Bugher Foundation Centers of Excellence in Stroke Collaborative Research for Regeneration, Resilience and Secondary Prevention supports investigators whose collective efforts will lead to new approaches, not only to improve the prevention of stroke, but to also expand upon the previous Bugher Stroke initiatives by inviting research on recovery after a stroke; including the areas of repair, regeneration, neuro-plasticity and rehabilitation.
- AHA/ Children’s Cardiomyopathy Foundation Pediatric Cardiomyopathy Joint Research Award supports an investigator conducting research specific to pediatric cardiomyopathy. CCF will provide $35,000 per year for two years to fund one project related to pediatric cardiomyopathy research. The AHA will provide the balance of the funds needed to fully fund the selected award. Interested parties should submit a Beginning Grant-in-Aid or Grant-in-Aid.
- AHA/Gerontological Society of America National Hartford Centers of Gerontological Nursing Excellence Postdoctoral Fellowship Award supports an investigator proposing innovative basic, clinical or translational research projects relevant to gerontological nursing, aging, cardiovascular disease and /or stroke. Interested parties should submit a postdoctoral fellowship application to their local affiliate.
- AHA/Myocarditis Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship Award supports an investigator proposing innovative basic, clinical or translational research projects relevant to the etiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment epidemiology and/or prevention of myocarditis. Interested parties should submit a postdoctoral fellowship application to their local affiliate.
AHRQ Patient Centered Outcomes Research (PCOR) Institutional Mentored Career Development Program (K12): RFA-HS-13-008
The Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Program Award (K12) provides support to an institution for the development of independent clinical scientists. This program proposes to launch a multi-year large-scale effort to support the development of patient centered outcomes (PCOR) researchers in academic and applied settings (e.g., the health care delivery system, state and local governments, health plans, research networks). Applicant institutions must be well poised to directly provide or partner with those who can provide the needed didactic and experiential opportunities for candidates in sophisticated comparative effectiveness methodologies applied to PCOR. They must also have the capability to expose candidates to accelerated clinical effectiveness and outcomes research and to the translation, dissemination and uptake of evidentiary information for health care practice and decision-making.
