Into the Future: LLU Research

October 30, 2014

Envision the future of research at Loma Linda University Health: Where are we heading?  Will it impact your personal research interests?

The 2014 Research Symposium is scheduled for Thursday, October 30, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, at the Wong Kerlee Conference Center.  In addition to insights and guidance from successful investigators, two sessions will reflect on elements of a report assembled by CannonDesign, a respected consulting firm on research planning.  After evaluating our collective research activities they highlighted strategic opportunities for leveraging those capabilities into greater research productivity.

8:30: Registration

9:00: Introduction & Opening

9:15: Greeting by Dr. Richard Hart, President of LLUH, who will outline key recommendations from the consultant’s report, provide a preview of a new research facility, and describe major cross-campus research initiatives that are taking shape.

10:00: Overview of LLU’s recent research history and accomplishments, with the aim of identifying our successes.

11:00: Experienced investigators share views on building research collaborations with communities.

12:00: Lunch provided.  Keynote address by Dr. David R. Williams, Harvard professor, chair of the Research Affairs Committee of our Board of Trustees, and an internationally respected expert on health disparities.  His presentation will focus on new directions in health research.

1:30: Successful inventors provide their personal insights on discovering and developing inventions and commercial products.

2:30: Research trends at major research universities, presented by a principal member of the CannonDesign team

3:30: Suggestions on successfully integrating patient input into the design of clinical studies, offered by a panel of patient-based researchers.

The symposium offers something for everyone: basic scientists, social and behavioral researchers, community investigators, public health researchers, clinical scientists, clinical trial coordinators and research directors.  Add it to your calendar and plan to spend the day looking forward.

A detailed program with registration information will be provided shortly.
