Move over “Sitting Disease”, Dr. D. has arrived
If the Lakers can defeat Boston and Cleveland in one week, then I can walk 10,000 steps a day for the next month. Or can I? During the last several days I have worn my pedometer, including days when I have run for 30 minutes (an estimated 3 miles). During a typical office day, my pedometer suggests I walk about 3000 steps a day, while my 30 minute run adds an additional 5000. Thats only 8000. Its now 8:30 p.m., I have run, walked all over campus, and am ready to call it quits, and still only have 8900 steps. Lord help me. Tomorrow I plan to walk to work, lets see how this pans out.

Good job guys!
I am trying to keep over 10.000 steps per day. Was able to go over 11,000 and trying to motivate my group (all students). One of my strategies is to walk from home (about 1,500 steps). One day as I was walking to work wearing a suit and a tie, a gentleman stopped his car and offered me a ride. I firmly resisted the temptaion and said, “No, thanks, I am on the Dean’s Challenge – need to walk!”

Wow after seening my step trend this week, I am disappointed that I had a slow and painful decrease, I got to find a way not to let school work interfer with my goal of at least reaching 10,000 steps one of these days. I am going to work on doing better this coming week. Wish me luck. Happy walking everyone!

I have this theory and I wonder if it has ever been validated through research or any health studies: People who walk FAST are never heavy. I’ve never had a weight problem in my life, in fact with my athletic background (baseball, cycling) and my avid career with outdoor photography, my physique has usually been on the slim side. Having said this….people are always commenting how fast I walk and prior girlfriends always used to kick me in the shin to slow me down. Just yesterday, Feb. 11, I was walking with a professor to his office and he commented, “slow down…you always walk so fast.”
So, as I say, if you want to slim down and lose weight, yes walk. But…WALK FAST!
Thanks…Steve.

Hey Bill Colwell…
You must be walking your doggie all over the state (!) Lots of steps there for your team….. Is your doggie outright refusing to go on walks with you yet? ha ha ha!!!

Today, I decided to walk from home (I live in Van Leuven) to work and in 20 minutes, I did 2K. The walk was nice and better than just riding a stationary bike inside the Drayson, where I just did about 800 steps for 20 minutes. I guess I’ll walk more and forget the Drayson

Trial and error, if there is a L on the upper left of the screen and you do not remember the code. A quick way to reset is to take the battery out for a couple of seconds. Also for distance, setting your stride length is necessary.

Wow…for the first time in the US, I am not regretting Stater brothers is that far away (for me) from Danielle’s. I wish it was farther. I added 11400 steps (thanks to my job, and bachelorhood that I have to walk down to “Stater brothers” to get some grocery to eat). So good that I dont possess a car of my own till now.

Hey I think I figured it out, I held all three buttons down then after I got an F-3 reading I reset the step mode and held it down for the 3 sec and it cleared to zero, I guess it had been locked, and by doing this I removed the lock. If there is another way please let me know. Good luck with the walking!

there is an odd discrepancy between my pedometer and facts online. I walked 10,246 steps today and the pedometer says I walked only 2 miles. But I think its a broadly accepted fact that 10,000 steps is 5 miles. So what is going on??
I would appreciate some insight. thanks!

Ahem…. Doc D….. I just noticed that you (JUST HAPPENED TO) mention how the Lakers beat the Celts in your blog…… YOU are BRUTAL…. Oh, but then I guess it happens so seldom, that you had o take advantage…….. 8>O Ya, I know, I know…. focus on STEPS… STEPS… STEPS….

Sorry, I ment I hold down the reset button until it stops flashing and then I get the —-, I need to learn to type and spell:> I hope I am a better walker than my other two skills mentioned!

Tell me about it, I did a practice run on Sat usually the day I am active the most, and lets just say that the number is too shameful to even write down. To top it all off I followed the instructions to reset and its just not happening. When I hold down the mode button in the “step” mode for the amount of time required all I get it —– yep just dashes then an error message. Any suggestions? Talk to ya later!- Herminia

uh oh… this could be trouble…… and I will NEVER hear the end of this!!! YIKES!
February 10th, 2009 at 12:46 pm
Yeah, I hear you. I walk three miles a day with my dog, though I my step estimate was higher (like just a tick under 6000 steps).

10,000?!?!?!?! I might have to make more of a conscious effort to walk more than I thought.
