You may have noticed that the shelves in the library are looking a bit bare with a noticeable lack of books. We are in the process of weeding and shifting the collection. Books from the 1st floor will be moving to the 4th floor and other parts of the library. This is happening so that the collection focuses on supporting academic programs, clinical departments, and other groups particular to Loma Linda University Health, and also to prepare for the renovation of the 1st floor starting this summer.
The third floor renovation is nearly complete, only a few details to finish up on. So what’s next? The basement. Changes in the basement will be fairly major. The south half of the floor will house the IT help desk as well as the rest of the IT team that are now housed near the Randall Amphitheater. There will also be a suite of academic offices on the south west wall. The remaining north half of the floor will be designed for quiet individual study space. Work is ongoing on the plans with construction scheduled to begin in late spring.
The University Libraries is welcoming the arrival of a majority of our new 3rd floor furniture on Wednesday, October 15. During the installation, we expect that the Del Webb Library’s 3rd floor will be noisy and areas will be closed off until installation is complete. Group study rooms on 3rd floor will be closed during the morning; group study rooms on 1st and 4th will be available. Please plan for these inconveniences while the work on 3rd floor is completed. Thank you.
On Monday October 6 and Tuesday October 7 the floor tiles in the third floor stacks and the student break room will be removed. There will be no access to the break room on these two days and no access to the third floor stacks from the bridge. The vending machines will not be connected on these two days but will return after the tile removal is complete.
Carpet laying on the 3rd floor of the Del E Webb Library is completed. Areas of the 3rd floor will temporarily reopen to students beginning today to accomidate additional study space and the group study rooms. The 3rd floor will be subject to times of closure when it is necessary to continue work on the remodeling. Thank you for your patience. We will have a terrific new 3rd floor for study and collaboration when the remodel is finished.
Here are a few images of the progress so far.
Latest picture of the progress installing the carpet on the thrid floor of the Del E. Webb Memorial Library. Sorry for all the noise and mess this much needed improvement has caused.
The installation of the new carpet on the third floor will begin on Monday August 18th. We may need to close the floor during the install.
We have been busy over the last few days with the final preparations, painting, removal of bookshelves, adding power outlets in the floor, and removal of the old reference desk. The new furniture is all on order and will be coming in over the next several weeks. We appreciate your patience as we upgrade the study space for you.
As part of the ongoing Del E. Webb Memorial Library renovation project, the computers on 3rd floor have been moved down to Room 101 on the 1st floor. This temporary move is necessary so that new carpet can be installed in August and new furniture in September. When finished, the library’s 3rd floor will provide new collaborative spaces, a business center, lounges and computer ares to facilitate the vision of higher education at Loma Linda University.
